How do you create a website that successfully delivers the brand promise of quickly and easily delivering a curated selection of budget boutique hotels from around the globe?
Started by two keen travellers, Doris and Dicky found that there were a growing number of savvy travellers trying to find the right affordable, yet still stylishly chic boutique hotel; however to locate the truly special, hidden-away hotel was labour intensive and travellers simply could not invest the time required. The Doris & Dicky website needed to provide a quick, easy and secure solution for customers in order to book the hotel; whilst at the same time convey the cool brand values that make Doris and Dicky so special.
Developing personas for our target audience helped us to focus on their key requirements for the site, and from this we were able to develop the information architecture phase, covering core users journeys and and wireframes. The key to this project was making it quick and easy for visitors to browse and book the hotel of their dreams, especially on their mobile; thereby avoiding any unnecessary steps was crucial.
During the design stage, we wanted to deliver on the luxury yet approachable feel for the brand. Doris and Dicky required the website to not only be beautiful and inviting to inspire travellers, but it also needed a sophisticated integration with an international travel rest API, to allow for hotel availability, booking, and fulfilment to be handled through various web services.
Joomla was selected as the CMS. Offering flexibility in being able to add in the booking process, and to connect the various views to the API and return those results in a manner that was completely controllable style and layout wise. The finished result has been a huge success, drawing multiple high level media coverage and praise for its coolness, fabulous curated hotels and easy of use.
We were delighted that, against stiff competition, dorisanddicky.com was voted one of the ten best boutique hotel websites by The Guardian.
